2007 Sportster Events

• Lots of events coming up for the Sportster Community in 2007.  The XL-List East Coast Rally is set for the Riders Roost Motorcycle Campground May 11th-13th.  More information is available at http://www.ecr.xl-rider.com/.
• The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has announced that the Harley-Davidson Sportster will be the "Featured Marque" at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days 2007, to be held July 27-29 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
• The 4th Annual XL List/ Kansas City Run is set for August 24-26. Same place as last year, Basswood Resort. More information at http://www.xlrator.com/.

New is down draft fuel injection, chassis, sporty pipes and loads of ground clearance. performance are between 85-90bhp and around 75ftlb according to Harley-Davidson. 04/05/2006 - XL-List Posting Requirements Change!

Due to spam control issues, posting to the XL-List has been closed to the public at large.  This means that your email address must either be subscribed to the list or digest or it must be approved for posting.  A new "subscription" method has been added termed Post-Only that allows you to add email addresses to the allowed list without delivering email to them.  This applies to those who wish to only participate in the XL-List by monitoring the web page or those who would have multiple email addresses (work and home for example) that you use to post but only want to receive the list at one.

Please email me if this is not clear.  Instructions have been added to the FAQ.

03/13/2006 - XL-List Run and Rally Tickets and Merchandise

As you all know, I'm the Organizer Emeritus this year, Sam Dakin is doing a great job of pulling together this year's rally. Tickets are now on sale at the website for the rally itself:

I'm also happy to report that I just finished the merchandise for this year's rally. Fred Fortune has AGAIN stepped up and created an awesome rally design that will be on the cloisonné pins (first 100 tickets only, HURRY!) and available on official rally items.

02/01/2006 - XL-List Run and Rally.

Ok, y'all got the date, right? September 8-10

Tent camping has been reserved at $10 per head per night. They also have a few cabins available at regular rates. YOU will be responsible for making your reservations!!!!

Food? you ask! Why YES! Once again S&S BBQ will be providing Kansas City Style BBQ on Friday and Saturday nights. Breakfast will be served by Basswood on Saturday and Sunday mornings. You MUST buy tickets IN ADVANCE to enjoy this sumptuous fare.

Now some of you veterans are wondering why the change of venue and timing. Well, first there's the Factory Open House. (Wanna be one of the first to ride a 50th Anniversary Sportster?) AND! Platte City (just 6 miles from camp) has their annual End of the Trail Festival - Motorcycle Rally and Street Dance.

There's the raffle of dam near anything you can think of! All proceeds will go to the March of Dimes/ Bikers for Babies. Need not be present to win! Raffle tickets can be bought in advance or at the Rally.

01/31/2006 - Swap Scam Alert!

It has been brought to my attention that there is a scammer using the swap page.  His current alias is "Charles Smith".  As with many of the Internet scams, he is offering to buy what ever you are selling and is offering to send you more money than you are asking.  His login has been disabled.  Please ignore any message you received from him.  The following is the standard form of his letters:

Hi XXXXX ,

OK you can sell all the items to me for $XXX.XX as i have offered for your items as described in the website written as follows:

Note that there is no problem in the items although the photo is needed which I am waiting. I am not selling the item. My family need the items. Please give information i have requested:

(1)cheque payable to name:
(2)Home Address:
(3)state:
(4)zipcode:
(5)Country:
(6)telephone number/mobile phone:

Please send me the same information on yourself to me quickly. Similarly, please provide the name/address/phone number for my business associate who is planning to make payment for you. You should be expecting a c! heque for the $2100 amount in the form of a cashier's check.You should deduct $450 for keeping the item for mne and send check for shipping charges to my shipper. I do not want you to stress yourself, so id rather send my shipper to your location to pick u! p the item.

10/17/20055 - XL-List SPAM and my response.

The list has been deluged with SPAM this past week. While the two layers of SPAM filtering is catching 90%+ of it, some still get through. In response, I have closed submission of posts to only those who are subscribed. I know that there are some that also post that are not subscribed but monitor the web pages. I will be manually adding those addresses to the accepted user list. So, if that applies to you, be patient if you post, it may take me a little while before I get the message approved and your address added to the list.

7/14/2005 - More Swap upgrades

Personal ads still expire in 30 days, but I have extended business ads to 60 days.  Also, the management page will now display how many days until your ad will expire and a new option has been added to allow you to renew your ad.

7/11/2005 - New Swap Category

I have added a new category and type to the Swap in response to numerous requests I have received over time.  There is now a category just for you business types, so please, if your endeavors are of the commercial type, be respectful and put your ads there.  I also added a service type, since not all products are material.

Just in case you did not notice, I have completely overhauled the Sportster Home Page.  This may cause some of your bookmarks to quit working.  If you cannot find what you were looking for, or if you find any errors or problems, let me know.

6/15/05 SCAM ALERT- Several users of the SWAP have reported being approached by a scammer to purchase their for sale items. Same story as everywhere else, the messages have poor English, promises of cashiers checks well above the price you are asking with a request to send them the balance via Western Union.

Ignore these!!! Specifically, do not correspond with nyrock202@yahoo.co.uk.

Also, all those that have contacted me have placed their email/contact information IN THEIR AD. The scammers do not bother registering, so they are only contacting those who have given their information. This is the biggest reason I have required registration. Please, do not put contact information in your ad.
