Hello all...

<restoration parts>

A possible source for restoration parts is Butterfield's MC Parts in Omaha
NE (402.391.3768). Bob has a couple of sheds full of various new and used
parts. Might be worth a call...tell him Marshall sent you (not that that
will get you anything).

<shock spring orientation>

I have no idea why the springs would be wound in different directions...from
the Motor Company's point of view, probably just an aesthetic thing. But,
Bernie, your theory about springs being installed "upside down" or "right
side up" doesn't fly...the spring is still "wound the same way". To prove
this, take apart a ball-point pen, hold the spring vertically, and look at
it from the side; then turn the spring upside down and look at it
again...still wound the same way.

I would also submit that the direction of the spring winding would have
little, if any, perceived effect on the action of said springs/shocks. I
know someone will dispute this, and rightfully so...but, notice I said
"perceived" effect...

<buy now or wait>

If'n it was me, I would buy the yellow Sportster, then start replacing the
chrome pieces with black powder coat, and a black exhaust system...

<oil>

Don't run synthetics or Slick 50-type additives...they are too slippery and
will trash roller bearings <chortle-snort>

that's all for now,

marshall (on Y2K watch >:( )
