I have been looking at both the 1200C and the 1200S. I'm trying to
figure out which one is better to go for. I will not be running out
right away, I need to talk the so into it and sell my 79'. But if
anyone has any oppinions let me know. Love the new factory foward
controls on the custom, one of the sales people at Liberty HD told me
they sell the HD's for msrp and it would only be $200 to put the fwd
cntrls on the 1200S.

Jerry,

Regarding your pending choice between a XL1200C or XL1200S.......

Before I purchased my 99' Sport, I was visually turned on by the appearance of the additional chrome on the Custom. I also liked the seating position of the Custom vs the Sport. You can of course put the forward controls on the Sport as you are contemplating or highway pegs. If you like high speed tight cornering, forward controls will hinder the handling characteristics, you may drag highway pegs in tight corners before your standard pegs as well.
After 970 miles on my Sport, I would not trade the performance and handling I have experienced for the looks of the Custom. The suspension is wonderful and is tuneable to your taste. The power difference is quite noticiable between stock S and stock C. I put on SE slip on mufflers and it got a quick boost in power and am putting on a SE air cleaner at the 1000 mile checkup. This should give a more noticable boost, more than a Custom with similar modifications.
I can always add the chrome to the Sport down the road.
So..... I would say if you are looking for instant looks go, with the Custom. If you are looking for instant performance, go with the Sport and put on the SE slip ons and air cleaner.

As I said, I have put on 970 miles in three weeks despite the month of December, we had days in the 60's for the 3 weeks. Alas, the back tire caught a nail Saturday and I am waiting for a new tire. Oh, well its 28 degrees outside.

Enjoy your search and I hope the OL concurs.
