  Someone asked about fork oil weights...I have the following
recommendations based on personal satisfaction with Progressive springs
on the front of my 2001 xl standard:
First choice - Valvoline Dexron III, Mercon III Transmission Fluid
Second - Schaeffer All Trans Supreme
Third - HD Performance Fork Oil Heavy (99881-87)

  The service manual specifies Type "E" hydralic oil...remember to
correctly measure and add exactly 9 ounces to each wet fork.  The
heavier weight oil you use, the stiffer the ride.
