Hi Chris:

If all you did was change the pilot jet from a 42 to a 45 you shouldn't
have the problem you described unless something didn't go back together
right.

Did you remove the carburator? If so, you may not have fully seated it
into the manifold's rubber gasket. From first hand experience, it is very
easy to dislodge that rubber gasket and then twist it when you push the
carb back in. With the gasket twisted, you will not seal the carb to the
intake manifold.
