RE: Touring on the SportsterFrom: ekim@acusd.edu ekim@acusd.edu Next Article (by Author): Touring Sportys geoffb@za.ibm.com Charles asks: >>Has anyone done any touring on their sportster?<< Admittedly, my last big tour was way back in August to Bonneville Salt Flats. What I rode: Buckhorn handlebars, throttle rocker, LeatherLyke Saddle bages, Lazyrider bag, mid-controls, HD Slammer seat, no highway pegs, and no windshield. I wore my usual full encounter armored suit and full faced Arai helmet. For cooling, I used a "water-worm" and an Aerostich water soaked cooling scarf though the Nevada desert. I carried 2 liters of water, and a complete tool kit - Larry (Kidcoocoo) and I did a road-side repair with the kit. I would also next time carry my 0.5 gallon fuel cell (has foam to reduce possibility of explosion - ya, right!) since I almost ran out of gas on the Loneliest Highway in America (Hwy 50). I am now riding with black Sport bars which seem more comfortable for me. I also now ride a Corbin Gunfighter and Lady which is significantly more comfortable. I also have a widshield in my garage but have not decided whether I want to install it. Turns out that tucked in with feet on passenger pegs and lying on the tank at 100 mph, I found that if you pop your head up in the regular riding position, I lost about 10-15 mph with the same throttle twist. Of course, I am a large sail. --Ernie in San Diego 94 XLH1200+Thud Next Article (by Author): Touring Sportys geoffb@za.ibm.com |
