Actually, my most problematic time when  I was just starting it up cold. It
would run for a minute with the enrichener slightly open, then cough and die.

Manifold vacuum is greatest when the throttle is closed at idle and
decelerating. When the throttle is opened, manifold vacuum decreases. Vacuum
is lowest at wide open throttle.
