  I think Skinny is on the right track except for the ether.  As hot as the
spark is on these electronic ignitions you won't catch me using it on a
gasoline engine with the compression ratio 9.0 and up.  I drain the stale gas
out of the carb if it wasn't run dry or drained when it was last shut down.
Then jack up the bike so the rear wheel is off the ground, remove both spark
plugs and spray a little Marvel Mystery Oil into each cylinder, put the
transnission in 5th gear and rotate the rear wheel several times to turn over
the engine.  Reinstall the spark plugs and use the normal starting procedure
with fresh fuel to the carb.  You avoid a dry start this way and as long as
there is oil in the tank you will  get good lubrication.  You will probably
get a little smoke in the exhaust from the MMO but that is a lot better for
your engine than dry starting it with ether.
